Whoever went to Greece and failed to stop by the Mykonos does not know the magnificent beauty that he must have missed! Lying near Paros at the middle of the Aegean Sea, Mykonos is one of the favorite tourist stop sites in Greece. The island makes part of the Cyclades and is an exciting place whether by day or night. It is no wonder that it is one of the most visited islands in Greece.
To get into Mykonos, you can go through the main airport in the Greek mainland and take a direct flight to the island. There are also regular flights to the mainland to the island through its home airport or through Thessalonika or Athens. Many of the visitors stop by Mykonos during the summer from either the airports in Greece or by charter flights that are available from different European routes.
If you want a more luxurious way to reach Mykonos, you can choose to get to it by sea. The sea offers two choices for tourists: the regular ferry and the catamarans. The regular ferry takes about four hours to reach the island. Also, the ferry can carry buses and rental cars across to Mykonos. The catamarans offer a faster way to the island by sea. The high speed catamarans operate from the Paros and Piraeus terminals daily, just like the regular ferries.
After you have arrived in Mykonos, you can choose a variety of transport mode that will suit you. There is a good network of roads that is served by regular buses that take visitors to different points in the island. If you want a more adventurous ride, you can consider hiring scooters or ATVs. These are best for easy movement if you don’t want to move within the schedule of the regular buses. Taxis are also available for those who need them.
The island of Mykonos has many attraction places and landmarks. Some of its most visited landmarks are the windmills which provide a breathtaking sight. Also, visitors are attracted to an area, which has magnificent balconies in the island, known as Little Venice. You can trace the history of the island through the relics that are found at the Archeological Museum of Mykonos. As you tour the island, you will come across beautiful works of art from different artists who reside in the island.
Although the whole island is a beauty by itself, the most famous tourist spots are its beaches. There are many activities available for tourist at the beaches. For example, underwater sea life exploration and snorkeling are some of the activities you will enjoy at the Agios Ionnis Beach. This beach offers a spectacular sight and is one of the few natural beaches that rarely get crowded.
Another beach that is popular with tourists, especially those under 30 years old, is the Paradise Beach. This is the place to be if you want to interact with crowds of tourists under the age of 30. The beach has large pebbly sand and most people prefer being there when it is windy.
The above mentioned beaches are just some of the top beaches in Mykonos. Other fine beaches of the island include Elia beach, Ornos beach, Psarous beach, and Paranga beach. Mykonos will give you the Greece vacation of your life.
